Shrewsbury’s Cycle Grand Prix has proved such a success that organisers today said it will become an annual event.
Thousands of people turned out to watch the event last Sunday as riders tore through a circuit of the town centre.
Organiser Ben Lawrence said: “We had a brilliant turnout on the day and I can confirm we will now be holding the race every year. So many people turned out despite the weather. Next year I’m hoping to do a mass participation event so it will be even bigger and better.
“We could never have imagined it would go as well as it did. Cycling is so popular now, so we are already getting organised for the circuit next year.”
Crowds cheered on Olympic gold medal winner Joanna Rowsell, who was pipped at the post at the last minute by three other riders.
